Instead of your shame you will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace you will rejoice in your inheritance. And so you will inherit a double portion in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours.
Isaiah 61: 7
Shame is something that comes when we feel there was something that happened that signified that we were not enough, we didn’t have what it took for others to see our worth or for us to put the pieces of our life together. Shame can come from our failures. We don’t add up and we may have caused some bad situations to happen in our lives that we are reaping the consequences of. Maybe there is an area that is so shameful that you hate to share it with anyone. There are people that have had things happen to them that they have literally pushed under the rug and allowed no one in. They have allowed that shame to stay trapped in their heart, which is the worst place for it to stay trapped.
Shame will convince you that you aren’t good enough. You are different than those around you who appear to have no shame in their lives. It will convince you that since your life has a different set of circumstances that you are walking in less than when you are more than.
Many times we draw our shame from our failures. There may have been things completely out of our control, yet since we were not able to stop them we believe that we are a failure. We feel guilty for not being enough to change our situation. Shame and guilt go hand in hand.
