When I got home last Wednesday night after church, I sat down and wrote a song titled, Altar of Love.
Some people view the altar as a scary place because it symbolizes letting go. It symbolizes giving up life as you have known it. When you’ve been broken it may seem like too much to come to God. You may be scared that he will deal with you like everyone else has. You may be scared that he will look at your sin, the ugliness of your scars, and the places you’ve been instead of really ” seeing you.” But I promise you if anyone is going to get you it’s God. He looks right at you and sees who you really are. Not that messed up boy that is promiscuous because he is desperate to feel, but the boy who has a good heart and has the potential to be a great father. He doesn’t look at you and see the person who has made mistakes because you never had the guidance of having people that loved you in your life, he looks at you and sees who you really are. The you at your purest state. The you that keeps trying no matter what curve-balls have been thrown your way. He doesn’t look at you as the perfect church girl and not see that underneath it, you are hurting like anyone else. He really gets you.
This altar that I speak of is a safe place for you to throw your whole self on. Some of the words to the song I wrote on Wednesday say, The altar of love, where I’m safe from harm. I’ve been in some places where I felt like my heart wasn’t safe, but in his arms I find safety. I am safer than I have ever been: to be myself, to be loved and to develop in his gentle hands. I want you to know today that you are safe, too.
If he wants something, even though it may not feel good in the present, you can trust that he has your best interest at heart. No matter what you have to give up in this life to feel right with your spirit towards God, remember that if he wants it, it’s because he sees the future. He sees that the sin or weight won’t benefit his child, and he doesn’t want to see you go through that. He wants you to surrender more, so that he can love you further.
Hence, it is an ” Altar of Love.”
