One time I was listening to one of my favorite preachers and I heard him mention radical obedience and how much his life took off when he started having the faith to trust what he felt. I started trying to practice this in my life. For a period of time anything I even thought he wanted me to do, I would go ahead and do. During that period of time, a lot of things just kind of miraculously started working out.
I did this because I was always like a doubting Thomas. Each time I knew he spoke to me, I would stand like a deer in headlights and need 1000 signs to back it up. I made some key mistakes in my life not listening to his voice, that taught me a lot about the importance of obeying when I think it may be him speaking.
During this time of practicing radical obedience a lot of things I felt to do, ended up being right which led me to believe..a lot of times we can get so stuck when we may need to get out of the boat and do what we feel we are supposed to do.
Here are some thoughts I had this week on radical obedience:
If there is going to be people who change the world we need people that have radical obedience. People that aren’t afraid to follow with just a still small whisper that they may sense.
We need people in tune with his presence each day and willing to follow out his instructions even if it may seem like the world around them is in contradiction to what they feel.
This world has a lot of wonderful things in it, but I think we can all agree there are areas that need people willing to be world changers. We need good people filled with his power. We can never accomplish as much as when we have a spiritual force behind us backing up our moves, making the five loaves and five fishes that we have feed a multitude of people.
Radical obedience may require you to do things you’ve never done. It may require you to step into shoes you have never stepped into. It may even require you to finish the work of people that were too fearful to get the job done.
I imagine people like Martin Luther King practiced radical obedience. I doubt there is a way to make that much of an impact on the world without a higher power backing him up. I imagine he got inside information during his prayer times in the morning and followed his instincts often. I’m sure he had to live at a different level than you and I may live. A level that only world changers can understand.
