Today I took a little lunch break and went and sat in Target parking lot. There is one area of my life that I am working on myself in. I felt very weak today in that area. So I sat there and just prayed for a while. My mind wondered back to a time frame when my life was in absolute shambles and I had to learn how to literally put on the strength of God each day before I walked outside because I had none of my own. I would sit on my bed and pray for strength until I had the strength I needed to get up and go about my day. Today, I knew that I was going to need an extra dose of God’s overcoming strength while I grew in the area I was working on. A favorite scripture of mine during that time is one I came across last night:
This scripture is one I used to lean on like a crutch because it says there is everlasting strength in God. This means it does not run out. This means it doesn’t matter what I need or if I am weak every single day, I can take on the strength of God because there is a never ending supply.
Here are a few things that may help you take on the strength of God.
- Ask Him for Strength: I know this is basic. But, many times we simply need to stop and ask him for it. Today as I sat there in Target, I prayed for strength to do what I knew I was supposed to do because many times we know what to do but the hallow places in our hearts are pulling us in direction that we shouldn’t go. We need the strength of God to stay on target in our lives.
- Give What is In Your Heart to Him: Sometimes there are toxic things taking up residence in our hearts. Things like worry, fear, old memories…negativity. We need to give that up and make room for better things in our heart. Just start giving him your worries one by one, saying them out loud and praying about each. You’ll soon leave that discussion realizing that there is someone who has it all under control. You may also see your worries from a better perspective. It is amazing how much those things weigh us down.
- Stay in his presence until you know his strength has come over you: Sometimes we just need to pray until we receive what we need. It is there, but we have spent so much time with others things that thirty minutes or an hour is nothing to pray over your heart until you receive the strength you need to go about your day in a better way.
