Many people in our day in age are not fully enjoying life because of unbeknownst pressures. I shared about how I lived with depression for years. I don’t share that on top of that I had high anxiety which just made things worse.
I received a deep emotional healing at an altar one day but it took me a long time to learn other aspects of how to live in the rest of God. I have known some of the greatest Christians that have lived their entire lives worried, anxious, stressed. Many people disguise it as worried about people they love, and they have excuses that seem legit. And by no means am I perfect but it’s so much better for me now.
There was a time where I had every reason to worry. I remember sitting in my room with my bible out and looking at every situation in my life. I had written every area of life on a piece of paper. Looking down at that paper I had major crisis situations written in every area. I had no reason to be peaceful. I had no reason not to be anxious. So I took out my pen in one hand to write down all my issues and a bible in the other.
I realized something- I could simply give it all to God. Coming from generations of pastors I had so much advice throughout my life on how to live. But as I sat there, I realized I had to throw it out. It was just me and Jesus from here on out. It was such a mess I needed divine intervention on all fronts. So I decided to do something that usually would have seemed like the scariest jump off the cliff, but it was my only option. I would simply trust God.
Here are a Few Things That Worked for Me:
Figure out Uncontrollables vs Controllables
On one side of the paper I wrote Uncontrollables ( The things only God could do) and on the Other Controllables ( The things I could do). I drew a line through the middle.
A lot of what we worry about really are uncontrollables. Many people use prayer as a way to worry more. They are hanging onto God just in case he forgets that he has to answer that prayer. There are some things, though, that really are up to God and it is a scary place to be in a place where we are holding on to so much control over our own lives. It has been my belief that I am in the most rest when everything that is supposed to be in his hands, is safely there. He can be trusted with your children, your church, your career. With the things that are supposed to be in his hands there, then he can lead you on what to do with your hands.
Start Immediately to Work on Everything You Can Control
I wrote on one side of my paper the things I was worried about, on the other side I wrote the things I could do within my own power. It is important to organize our thoughts so that we can direct them the right way.
We all probably know things that we could be doing but instead we are spending time with anxious thoughts that are weakening our resolve to follow through.
For instance, if you need better credit, it makes sense to start paying off your collections. What I found out is that when I started doing what I was supposed to do or could do with the situations in my life, I started seeing supernatural provision to help me get the rest of the way until I was no longer in a crisis situation. This is the beauty about being close to God. Even the small things that I get up and do, are blessed by him and he sees every effort.
Give Your Worries to God Everyday
The ultimate decision for everything really is his. Some things are really scary that we have to go through-especially if we are rehearsing the what ifs in our minds. Those what ifs may or may not happen but what for sure will happen is you’ll lose precious days not being your best self. You’ll lose cherishing and growing the things you have. If you worry about what you’re kids are not, you may not spend time appreciating them for what they are, planning dates with them and letting them feel your true love for them instead of your unspoken disapproval.
Letting God have the God things, will allow you to learn to trust him in a new way, in the way we are supposed to. And this in turn, will bring blessings you wouldn’t have had if you hadn’t learned to lean on his power instead of yours. Trusting God will allow him to lead and many times he will lead you down roads you never thought would be the best for you, your children, or your family. But since we have learned to have a life of trust, we will recognize it as him and follow his peace down that road.
Activate Faith
Live in Faith that the God who knows all is your father. I really do believe God wants what is best for us. If anyone is going to lead you into the right kind of life it is him. Where is our faith? Faith that he will take care of us. Faith that we can trust him. Faith that his decision will be the best decision for us. I believe many times Christians don’t have faith because they haven’t discovered who he really is yet. They have discovered his power, but not his character. They are scared he wont do what they want him to do. They are scared that unless they hang on to everything, that he wont do his job. They don’t trust that he has their best interest at heart. Choose to believe that he is a good God, who only does things that reflect his character. Activate your faith by speaking it and believing it over your life.
